“The Only Constant in Life Is Change.”- Heraclitus
I am sure you have all heard of the statement. We all face changes every day – whether it is a simple change in the weather, our schedule or expected change of seasons. The world around us is always changing.. and this means so are we. And whenever I go through change in some form or manner the one thing I tell myself .. This too shall pass. Well I am sure you have are are currently going through some version of change in your space.
The last 1 year feels like I have been on a hamster wheel and running in circles trying to manage the ever changing situations in my life – whether it be personal or professional. There have been months where I just had to rush to my family’s aid when their health was a concern – and yes this meant booking flights over night to fly across the world to be with my family and support them. And then there have been months where projects that I had to work on took a considerable turn in a direction which derailed me completely and that meant working late nights to manage the new direction of the project
I have had my ups and downs when it has come to my personal emotions and how I have felt about my ability to deal with change on a day to day basis. In the short term I noticed myself becoming less tolerant to others but also not focusing on my own personal well being. In short I stopped being the best version of myself.
Haven’t there been moments in your life where change has happened more frequently than expected – whether it was your personal or professional space. Now the question is how ready are you to manage change and go through the journey in a way that still enables you to be your very best. I have over the last 2 years tried a lot of techniques to manage myself when confronted with a situation of change. While some have worked well for me .. some have not. So here are my 5 tips that have helped me deal with changes as they have occurred –
Accepting things you cant change – Focus on what you can change yourself and accept you cant control everything
Don’t constantly worry about ‘what if’- Focus on the what now and be present in the now
Find the Balance – Have a good balance between your work, your family and yourself. Make a conscious decision to find balance and spend your time and energy accordingly
Be aware of your emotions – When faced with change its important to take a step back and ground yourself and truly let yourself feel your emotions. When you know how you feel you can better react to the situation
Be true to yourself – Ask yourself what is it that is most important to you in that moment. Don’t worry about what others are doing. You are your best self when you are authentic
So whats your mantra when dealing with change. Share your thoughts today !!!
